| How about some jobs for the girls?
Please, let us focus on supporting the summit, and getting the best possible value out of it for Australia. Peter Gray, Lower Plenty Women deserve a fair go WHERE were you, Julia Gillard, when the members of the steering committee of the Australia 2020 Summit were being chosen? Only one woman and 10 men? Are there really no other women who could contribute to the work of the committee? One can only wonder how the 1000 leading Australians who will attempt to provide responses to "the long-term challenges confronting Australia's future" will be chosen. It is particularly galling to see such an unbalanced committee at a time when women are being more and more recognised for their achievements in so many areas. Julia, so many women have applauded your achievements, and justly so.
Big ballgame ... well, for Feb. 29 it is
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Don't know what it's like where you are, but here it's just ridiculously beautiful out for this big Grapefruit League opening home tilt with Los Dodgers. The Disney folks apparently turned on their sinister weather-control machines to ensure we have picture-perfect conditions for this televised game and for ESPN The Weekend, that network being a subsidiary of Dark Star and all. Cynicism aside, you're gonna love it if you get to tune in today to watch this thing on The Worldwide Leader of Self-important Titled Events (nevermind ESPN The Weekend, how about this past week, er, Judgment Week? North Carolina vs. Boston College, Kansas vs. Iowa State . Judgment Week?) Anyway, it's beautiful here, and Peter Gammons and the boys (and girls) are here with The Network, and having Peter here is enough to make it feel like a good thing.
Forget Latte Factor, Learn How to Save Money in a Digital World
So you want to save a few hundred dollars but don't want to give up your morning latte? While it is easy to preach how to cut your daily habits to save a buck, it is difficult to practice the same for most folks. However, there are other ways to cut your expenses without sacrificing your daily habits. In today's technology driven society, we spend a lot of money buying electronics gadgets and accompanying services to make our life easy. Sellers know that we have disposable incomes and they push many services that we absolutely don't need. When you sign up for a cell phone service, they will try to push the loss-damage warranty for $5 a month. When did you last use that warranty to claim a new phone? In most cases you don't need the service. In the worst case, if you loose or damage the phone, buy a cheap phone from eBay to carry you over till your contract expires.

As I looked at this upcoming season, I said, I probably could get myself prepared to play. That really didnt have that much of a bearing on my decision. Its tough on everybody. But it was more the in-season strain. And Mike knows this, there were numerous Saturdays (before) home games where I was here at 8:30 at night watching film. I had never done that before. It was never enough for me. And Deanna knows this, after numerous games I would come home and after a couple of hours I had the computer out and I was watching film of the upcoming opponent instead of enjoying the win we just had. At some point, youve got to relax and enjoy and I found myself not enjoying it as much. Its fun to win but youve got to enjoy it and relax a little bit. That more than anything was taking its toll on me. Question: Some guys when they walk away cant get near the team they left.

Jeff Thelen's Blog
Do you have any ideas to save money? We ran a couple of stories this week talking about the tough economic times that could lie ahead. And we heard some great advice from experts and the people putting them into action. They say you need to write down a budget and stick with it. Save money and take advantage of your 401k plan as much as possible. Other advice is find hobbies that don't cost as much money (play basketball instead of buying video games) cut down on your number of stops per week at your favorite high end coffee shop and read stuff off the internet instead of subscribing to a magazine. So, do you have any ideas? Feel free to share them. You know what to do. J Respond to Jeff's blog here: Jeff, I saw the clip on "Hunters Coalition Against Earn-A-Buck" and am looking for contact info.

Between the Lines Latest Post | Last 10 Posts | Archives Check out Enterprise Alley Posted in: General Innovation Programming note: We've launched a new blog called Enterprise Alley that's designed to give a forum to startups that are targeting the businesses with new and novel technology and approaches. The blog, manned by Dennis Howlett, is designed to give some play to startups that are targeting the enterprise. These smaller companies are worth watching for a few reasons: They are on the cutting edge of business technology; They may yield some new uses that can improve your ROI; They may wind up in your existing applications as the bigger fish gobble up some of these smaller players. Here's what Dennis had to say in his introduction: While the technology landscape seems dominated by the mega vendors churning out ERP with the occasional splash of saas/on-demand, in the background there is a plenty of innovation and experimentation.

Lott to resign Senate seat effective end of year
The smooth-spoken Lott found himself in hot water in December 2002 after going too far in his praise of Thurmond at the South Carolinian's 100th birthday party. Lott said Mississippi voters were proud to have supported Thurmond when he ran for president on a segregationist platform in 1948, and added: "If the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years either." A few days later, Lott issued a statement saying he had made "a poor choice of words" that "conveyed to some the impression that I embraced the discarded policies of the past. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I apologize to anyone who was offended by my statement." But the damage was done. President Bush distanced himself from Lott's remarks, telling an audience the comments "do not reflect the spirit of our country." Lott then made a round of public appearances, apologizing for his gaffe.
