Time change seen as harbinger of spring

When we turn our clocks forward an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, some people will rejoice at the lengthened daylight hours. Others will grumble that they must adjust their timepieces, their body clocks, or rise in the dark rather than with the dawn.

This year, Daylight Saving Time comes earlier on the calendar than last year -- by two days. And, it's a full month earlier than in years past, because of the 2005 Energy Policy Act, which extended it by about a month.

Most people prefer maximizing the daylight, at least during spring and summer months. In a 1999 Gallup poll, 72 percent of respondents said they favor Daylight Saving Time.

A March 2007 survey for CNN, performed by the Opinion Research Corp., asked whether people liked the change last year that moved it forward several weeks -- from April to the second Sunday in March.

Eric Turkington (D-Cape and Islands) recently wrote state Attorney General Martha Coakley urging her to join other states' attorneys general in supporting a class action lawsuit protesting tax discrimination against out-of-state property owners in Florida. The lawsuit, Lanning et al v. Pilcher et al., questions the constitutionality of a "Save Our Homes Amendment" (SOHA) to the Florida constitution passed by voters in 1992, according to a recent press release from Mr. Turkington's office. The SOHA caps the annual assessment on a property owned by a Florida resident at either 3 percent of the assessment for the prior year or the percent increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). As the law stands, someone who buys a second home in Florida has to pay property taxes as much as three times higher than a Florida resident who qualifies for the tax cap, according to a Jan.

Strengthening the customer/e-retailer bond

The top half showcases the latest news, products and sales on J.C. Penneys e-commerce site; a click on any of the small, horizontal message boxes connects a customer to the relevant page on the site. The bottom half is a weekly calendar that highlights a product of the day; consumers can click on any day of the week to get product information and images without having to leave the widget for the e-commerce site.

JCPToday then goes a step further than many desktop widgets. Users can click on one of two tabs on the right side of the widget to access The Scoop, which extends the width of the widget and shows information on ever-changing topics such as birthstones, and My Stuff, which enables users to change the appearance of the widget and provides a calendar in which users can enter reminders for gift-giving events like birthdays and anniversaries.

Clinton is 'honored' - so is she history, too?

People, focus on this for a moment. 1. Democrats in this country seem to be hitching their wagons in droves behind a candidate (Obama) who is little more than a junior senator with absolutely no experience in foriegn affairs or policy. Hence all the talk of hope and change ! In reality, what hope and change ? Ask yourself……… What's wrong with this picture ?

2. Just about everything that comes out of Hillary Clinton's mouth is complete B.S. for instance, the Clintons have probably received more campaign contributions from special interest groups and been involved in more scandals during "their" tenure than just about any president I can think of in the recent past. Ask yourself people, do you really think that will make the special interest groups go away as she claims she will do in this article ? Wake up America !!!!
