Opinion: It's clear BCS still bunch of ... well, you get it

Let me be the first to tell you that any day now, the veil of confusion will be lifted and everyone will see the real story line of this crazy, mixed up college football season. Right now, you're all being blinded by the feel-good sense of how much fun it is to see the football establishment spun on its head.

You think it's so cute that this is the year Notre Dame and Nebraska are homecoming patsies. You snicker at the idea that Kansas and UConn — noted basketball powers — have ditched their notorious football lightweight status at the same time. Who doesn't love how every week the Top 10 looks like a revolving door, and that all sorts of unlikely names have worked their way into the Bowl Championship Series spotlight and so many familiar ones have worked themselves right out?

Blinded by the light, we love embracing the idea that football historians will ultimately call this college football's most radical season in generations.

CW can no longer play newbie card

All last TV season the people at The CW talked about the challenge of establishing its identity because viewers were adjusting to the new network, formed after UPN and The WB went away.

Now, viewers presumably have adjusted, and they're the ones going away.

The CW's overall viewership is down about 20 percent this season compared with a year ago, to an average of about 2.6 million viewers. Among its targeted audience of viewers age 18 to 34, its numbers are off about 25 percent, to a mere 750,000 or so.

No Mercy for buyers as East Melbourne lands $18.2m apartment

THE $18.2 million sale of a massive penthouse in East Melbourne's Mercy Hospital development has set a record for Victorian property and a new benchmark for apartment prices in Australia.

A Sydney-based businessman has bought two adjoining apartments on the 11th floor of the nearly completed building, with plans to merge them into one opulent residence overlooking Fitzroy Gardens.

The penthouse will be built to the owner's specifications and, with about 958 square metres of internal space, will be almost four times the size of an average Victorian home.

The sale is believed to have taken place late last year.

As housing affordability plummets to a 22-year low, offthe- plan apartment sales in the 150 Clarendon Street development have averaged more than $4.5 million.
