Veterans Become Pro-War Candidates

He's also part of VoteVets.org, a counterpart to Iraq Vets for Congress that has created Internet ads for anti-war veterans seeking office.

Madia, 29, who opposed the U.S. entry into Iraq and now favors orderly withdrawal, said the war remains a focus of his campaign.

"Certainly there are other issues weighing on people's minds - the economy, health care, education - but the war is central to the campaign because people realize it's all related," he said.

How to have a midlife crisis in 10 easy steps

Luckily, after a day on a motorcycle, you'll fit right in.

I joined globalfreeloaders.com shortly after hitting the road but there are plenty of similar sites, such as couchsurfing.com, where people advertise their spare (free) accommodation. This can range from a room in a house to a spot to pitch your tent in a garden. Even if you don't need accommodation, the websites are a good way to meet locals who might even show you around their city. The trade-off is that, when you return home, you will have endless requests from spotty teenagers to stay on your sofa.

4. Remember: You are not Peter Fonda

Assuming you're heading off on your own for six months, I am taking it as read that you are not in a committed relationship. If you are a guy, you should be prepared to become like every badly drawn road-movie character.

A Look at Lederach Golf Club

Good luck trying to find a straight putt at Lederach. Accordingly, the course keeps the Stimp reading around 9 to 9.5 to bring that contour into play. Instead of your 10-foot putt sliding 8 feet straight past the hole, at Lederach you'll have a 10-footer with 3 feet of break and a 5-foot comebacker that breaks a foot. .

My Forbidden Fruits (and Vegetables)

Many have been forced to buy GM cotton and other seeds from Monsanto and other biotech companies as a result of agreements between their state and national governments. Many in other countries just join the masses of starving and/or take up arms just on the promise of regular meals.

The situation noted in the above article is, in itself, unconscionable, but that is American agribiz at its core. There has been a policy since the 1940's to institute rules, regulations, and attitudes to make the small farm obsolete, a nostalgic curiosity without relevance. Hail the organic movement and the buy local initiative. Both have grown in popularity and process in the last couple of decades to the point that it has the big boys of agribiz nervous. Some have declared resistance through regulations as noted in the above article, others have done it with threats and lawsuits which stipulate that the small, independent farmers, almost always on the losing side, can't even discuss the case for fear of further legal action.

Wisconsin Sports Spectacular

I haven't seen many Pro Bowl trip packages to Hawaii advertised by travel agents lately. That's because they don't really exist. Every time I have seen the Pro Bowl, there are a lot of empty seats. It's just not a good game for the reasons mentioned above. That's why there isn't any juice to it, and then you take the star power out of it? That really makes it irrelevant. I think that they should just name the team, and not bother with playing the game. Name the players that made the team, give them their bonus checks and move on. The game is pointless for the players and the fans. There isn't an AP All-American game for the college players as far as I know. So the system of just naming the Pro Bowlers and not actually having a Pro Bowl would be a lot like that. If they are going to keep the game, there are 2 things I think they should do to improve it.

One Word: OIL

Haywood Jablowme from Canada writes: What a country Canada has become... The Russians are laying claim to Canadian soil and all we do is stand by and welcome them. What a joke.

Hold on a sec here ... the North Pole is NOT Canadian territory. That's a misconception fueled by Canada Post's long-running 'Send a letter to Santa Claus' campaign, you know the one where you send a letter to 'Santa Claus, North Pole, HOH OHO' :)

The North Pole is in international waters. Let's remember that.

Also, those of you blaming the Liberals for this, and those of you blaming the Conservatives -- you're both wrong. This is a result of Canadian foreign and military policy since World War II, during which time we had 4 Conservative governments (Diefenbaker, Clark, Mulroney and Harper) and 5 Liberal governments (St.
