Local Gas Station Charging Over $4 Per Gallon Near OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. -- There was a break for the holidays, but gas prices are ready to rise again. One local gas station, though, is already charging customers much more than others.

RAW INTERVIEW: Manager Defends $4.49 Per Gallon

Customers at the independent gas station near the Orlando International Airport are paying $4.49 a gallon. Some of the customers don't know the price they're paying until it's too late.

There are no large signs showing the prices at the station. Most customers are tourists returning rental cars before catching flights at Orlando International Airport. Not all believe it's an honorable way to conduct business.

"It's not fair. It's definitely price gouging during the holiday season," said tourist Les Lazarus.

Even at $4.49 a gallon for regular, most of the pumps were busy at Suncoast Energys on Friday morning.

OIA receives go-ahead to charge new rental-car tax

It's about to get more expensive to rent a car at Orlando International Airport.

Board members of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the agency that runs OIA, voted Wednesday to adopt a $2.50-a-day tax on car rentals. The "customer facility charge," which would be capped at five days, could add as much as $12.50 to a customer's bill.

Backers said the tax will raise money for $102.6 million worth of rental-car upgrades planned at the airport during the next few years, including additional parking spaces, fueling stations and car-wash bays.

Chemistry with a fighting chance

From accusations of dogfighting to drunken driving to dope smoking, the Trail Blazers were more prolific on the police blotter than in the NBA standings in the late 1990s and early part of the 21st century.

So fed up with their team's play and lack of professionalism, Blazers fans voiced their displeasure through the time-honored art of "civil disobedience." Portland's attendance bottomed out at 15,053 per game, dead last in the NBA, during the 2005-06 season.

Power forward Zach Randolph was among those who brought infamy to the team, and the curtain finally might have dropped on the "Jail Blazers" era when Randolph was traded to the New York Knicks on June 28, the same night Portland drafted Oden with the top pick.

Thanks to a community-friendly roster that has carried itself well on and off the court, attendance at the Rose Garden is the highest it has been since 2002- 03, which also happens to be the last time the Blazers made the playoffs.

Girls soccer: Denton, Guyer battle to tie in crosstown showdown

And, with 1:20 left, senior Katie Dugan shot the free kick up and over the crowd and into the net.

"These things you work on during practice and pray they work during games," Khoury said. "That time, [Dugan] pinned it into the back of the net and we were certainly happy to see that."

Guyer fought back immediately, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

"We feel pretty lousy about this one," Cox said. "The girls played an incredible game. We dominated the running play. I guess it's our story this year."

Guyer will host Saginaw on Tuesday while Denton plays at Saginaw Boswell.

Action 9 Uncovers More Minivan Door Problems

Action 9 has found General Motors knew its Uplander minivans had problems with doors opening on their own. And the issue could affect several other models besides the Chevrolet Uplander.

Ron Murray owns a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander and says when he watched Action 9's first investigation of the minivan's power doors he felt vindicated.

"That was mine, that was my vehicle," he said.

According to Murray, his right rear power door constantly popped open, sometimes even when it was locked. Action 9 saw it happen.

After pushing the "close" button, the door closed. Then, an alarm sounded and the door opened by itself. Murray says it happens 90 percent of the time.

PM denies spending will push up rates

Prime Minister John Howard denies his massive $9 billion splurge on election promises will push up inflation and interest rates.

Moments before the Coalition's election launch yesterday, the Reserve Bank of Australia sounded an official warning on inflation, which it predicted would not drop below 3 per cent before 2009.

The bank said public spending and household consumption were key drivers of inflation that could lead to further interest rate hikes.

But Mr Howard today insisted his election splurge was responsible and would not add to inflation.

He acknowledged higher inflation put upward pressure on interest rates but said factors such as drought and high oil prices, not government spending on tax cuts, were to blame for inflationary pressures in the economy.

Facemelter 3/4

How could Brett and I talk about facemelting guitar solos without recognizing Brian May of Queen? We couldn't. The song "Brighton Rock" by Queen is famous for the guitar solo. We think Brian May's guitar playing is out of this world. Speaking of out of this world, did you know May is an astrophysicist?

Check out this week's episode of Facemelter to learn how Brian May makes his awesome guitar sounds and tell us what you think!

Thanks for rememebring Brian May! This is one of my favorite guitar solos of all time. I was lucky enough to see them live twice (with Fab Freddie Mercury) and, you're right, this song is killer live. His three echoplexes build an amazing sound. \m/

Spyware Costs Businesses More Than $8,000 a Year

Safe-computing education and training needs to come "not from the IT staff but from the C-level executives down to the administrators, employees, anyone who's on the network communicating via a PC or wireless or PDA," Ostrowski said.

The CompTIA report, "Making the Case for Managed Services: The Business Impact of IT Problems at SMBs," comprised two studies. The first was with 200 IT professionals, the second with 537 SMB end users with no IT responsibilities. Interviewees came from a range of industries, including health care, financial services, and professional services in the U.S. and Canada.
